COMPANY_ _ABOUT AACHEN_ _

Aachen is a multi-faceted city. With its 5 universities it offers a research environment for science and industry, where the RWTH is a special attraction. Besides its scientific profile the imperial city also offers rich culture. Besides the cathedral of Aachen, which was declared a world heritage site by UNESCO 25 years ago, the city hall, numerous theatres, museums and events are centres for cultural and tourist life in Aachen. The annual CHIO and the Alemannia, now playing in the first league, count among the sporting attractions.

The inner city is characterised by various shopping streets, an idyllic market place and the lively Pont Street. The numerous bars, cafés and restaurants are the scene for the best part of Aachen’s night life.

Diversity and quality also dictate cultural life. The Aachen theatre offers opera, musicals, theatre, orchestra and ballet. This was the birthplace of the successful musical "Gaudi". The Suermondt-Ludwig-Museum presents sculptures and paintings and the Ludwig-Forum presents art from all over the world. Other museums and dozens of free culture groups offer their contribution to an interesting and varied program. In the "Culture summer of Aachen" musicians meet between the cathedral and the city hall.

Aachen is situated at the end of the Eifel, in a green landscape and close to the borders of the Netherlands and Belgium. People in Aachen live Europe. Living, working, studying and shopping in three different countries is a matter of course in Aachen. Even under Charlemagne the city, as residence with its diverse political and cultural life, was a sort of capital of Europe. Today the capital Brussels is practically on the doorstep, between Luxemburg and Aachen there only is a small part of the Eifel and Ardennes and Paris is less than three hours away with the Thalys.

The landscape around Aachen attracts with its diversity and beauty. The Eifel, the Ardennes, the Dutch Mergelland, the Maas, the river landscape of the Rur,  the "Hohe Venn" in the German-Dutch nature reserve - everything is virtually on the door step. The recreation and leisure options are as diverse as the landscape. Hiking, horse riding, sailing, rowing, climbing, golfing, hot air ballooning - there is something for everyone.
